Your role
As our first Engineering Manager (m/f/d), you will be instrumental in scaling the Sunhat engineering organization, ensuring high performance, productivity, and a world-class security posture. You will lead and mentor our growing team of product-minded engineers, own our key engineering processes, and help us continue to ship product every day to empower sustainability teams with.
This role requires a proven technical background, a deep commitment to people development, and a passion for operational excellence and automation in a rapid-deployment B2B SaaS environment.
Your mission
You will be the primary driver of engineering execution and team development. Your responsibilities will include:
- Engineering Leadership & Performance: Take primary ownership for the engineering team's overall performance, productivity, and health. Define and track key metrics that ensure reliable, scalable, and secure delivery.
- People Management & Mentorship: Provide direct management, coaching, and mentorship to engineers, supporting their technical growth and career development from junior to senior levels.
- Process Ownership & Improvement: Collaborate with the CTO to define, document, and champion best practices across the software development lifecycle, focusing on high-velocity delivery, automation, and maintaining a robust security posture across our multi-tenant SaaS platform.
- Hiring & Onboarding: Partner with the CTO and leadership to define the engineering hiring roadmap, lead interviews, and design a smooth, effective onboarding experience for all future engineering hires.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management and the CTO to ensure the team is aligned on priorities, technical roadmaps, and delivering powerful solutions.
- Security and Quality Champion: Embed a strong security and quality-first mindset into every aspect of the engineering process, ensuring our multi-tenant B2B SaaS platform remains robust and trustworthy.
Your profile
We are looking for an engineering leader who is passionate about people, process, and product. We value both seasoned managers and strong technical leaders ready to step into their first dedicated engineering management role.
- Engineering Leadership Experience (2+ years): Proven experience managing and leading agile engineering teams as Engineering Manager / Head of Engineering, ideally within a B2B SaaS / AI, product-focused environment that prioritizes frequent, automated releases.
- Strong Technical Foundation: You must have a strong background as a hands-on Software Engineer or Tech Lead in the past. While this role focuses on people and process, you should be able to deeply understand architecture discussions (microservices, REST API, multi-tenancy) and modern web technology (e.g., Angular, Nest.js, PostgreSQL) and our AI providers (e.g., Gemini, Mistral).
- Process and Automation Mindset: Solid understanding of modern CI/CD practices (e.g., GitHub Actions) and leveraging monitoring tools for performance and reliability. You have experience implementing and refining engineering workflows that increase team efficiency.
- Recruiting and Coaching Skills: Demonstrated success in interviewing, hiring, and effectively onboarding new engineering talent. You have a passion for mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and developing clear career paths.
- Communication & Collaboration: Fluent in English with outstanding communication skills. Highly collaborative, able to partner effectively with the CTO, Product Management, and our sustainability experts to translate strategy into technical execution.
- High-Velocity Environment: Experience managing teams in a product-minded, high-speed development environment where teams ship frequently (e.g., daily/weekly).
- SaaS/AI Experience: Experience in a B2B SaaS environment is a significant plus, especially one leveraging technologies like AI, cloud platforms and microservices.
- Security-Conscious Leader: A strong commitment to security and operational excellence. You understand the importance of data privacy, multi-tenant isolation, and embedding security practices into the development lifecycle (shifting left).
